The former Premier League player, who is paid 40,000 a week, is so poor that he can't even pay his phone bills.

In the mid 2000s, Lucas Neill was a professional footballer where he was the Captain of West Ham and played in the 2006 World Cup.

He lived the high life, owning a Ferrari in his garage and vacationing in the Maldives.

Neill, 45, is now living a very different life as he is deeply bankrupt and has recently been jailed for three years for failing to declare all his assets.

He was accused of hiding more than £2 million from his creditors who wanted to auction it off only to be unaware he had it.

While struggling with financial problems, he was so poor that he could not afford to buy a phone or pay for public transport.

Last Monday, a jury at Preston Crown Court took just 26 minutes to acquit him of the charges.

"I've won my freedom, but I feel like I'm broke in life," Neill told The Times.

During his bankruptcy, his wife, Lindsey Morris, a physical therapist and exercise specialist, was the sole breadwinner.

He fully blames himself for contributing to poverty.

Neill, a father of two, said: “I feel like I'm not protecting my family... And that hurts me. I disappointed my family. ”

The Association of Professional Players has warned that between 10 and 20 percent of professional players are poor when they retire from the game.

The man said that what made him poor was people who advised him to invest in things that would generate income, but he became poor and ended up being asked to sell his house to pay.

The family forgot that he had bought a piece of land and did not mention it until he discovered it and was imprisoned for hiding his property so that it could be sold to pay off his debts.

He says that during the 20 years he played football, he was paid what he paid, but then he went bankrupt and was left homeless due to debts.

This one says that he is trying to find a new life after being poor.
