President Paul Kagame thanked Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, for his incomparable leadership in energy security, relief and anti-corruption activities.

 

His Excellency Tamim bin Hamad was the special guest at the Commonwealth Leaders' Meeting (CHOGM) which was officially launched in Kigali yesterday, and President Kagame is expected to take over the chairmanship of the 54-nation Commonwealth.

 

On Thursday evening, Kagame said to the Emir of Qatar:

 

"The President of Qatar is a friend and partner of many of us. His country is closely linked to the Commonwealth. "

 

"Qatar, led by him, is at the forefront of addressing some of the most pressing issues of the day, starting with energy security, the solution to the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East, and the fight against corruption around the world," Kagame said. .

 

Rwanda and Qatar have close ties at various levels.

 

President Kagame also said in his speech that night: “I would like to thank all the special guests who came here to discuss.

Your presence and participation shows that the Commonwealth has a big role to play in creating a better world. "

 

President Kagame has called for closer cooperation in the Commonwealth, based on lessons learned from the Covid-19 epidemic.

 

"It simply came to our notice then. The epidemic has been a tragic one in history but has also shown us the value of family and solidarity. We can't move forward without working together. ”
