Rwandan and Mozambican forces launch offensive against rebels in Mbau

Aug 21,2021

Rwandan troops in Mozambique have launched a major offensive against Islamist militants in the province of Cabo Delgado, fleeing to the forests of Mbau after their strongholds were confiscated.

The last two weeks have been a fierce battle for the fighters as they have been replaced at their headquarters in the Mocímboa da Praia area.

It was after a fierce battle that some Rwandan Armed Forces passed through the North and others in the West. Some were led by Brig Gen Pascal Muhizi from Palma while others were led by Lt Col James Kayiranga from Awasse.

According to Igihe reports, the Rwandan and Mozambican forces have launched attacks in areas where the rebels have taken refuge. One of the areas is called Mbau, which is one of the remaining 10% areas in the hands of the rebels, as Gen Maj Innocent Kabandana recently told Igihe.com.

The troops are said to be attacking Mbau, from the Mocímboa da Praia area, and others from Mueda where there are Rwandan military bases. They all came from two sides so that they were able to surprise the fighters.

The area where the fighting is taking place today is a forest, which is difficult to reach and especially because it is already inhabited by wild animals, according to some of the Igihe.com interviewees familiar with the area.

Prior to Wednesday's attack, there were reports of airstrikes in the forest aimed at dispersing the rebels so that they could be easily defeated.

Bullets were fired at the militants on Tuesday.

In addition to Mbau, the other area left in the hands of the rebels is Siri I and Siri II.

In the aftermath of the fighting, he was immediately released from police custody and taken care of by security forces.

The only terrorist group fighting in Mozambique in the province of Cabo Delgado is the "Ahlu Sunnah Wa-Jama" inside the country known as Al Shabaab.

It is alleged that the ambassador provided the information to Hussein.

In that respect, they were also taught about Islam, with the goal that the province of Cabo Delgado would become the headquarters of a militant group based on Islamic extremism.

Its leader is unknown, only among many people interviewed by IGIHE agree that he is a "foreigner" and that he "fled the country" since Rwanda announced that it had sent troops to Mozambique.

On the other hand, the United States recently announced a man named "Bonomade Machude Omar" known as "Abu Sulayfa Muhammad" and Ibn Omar as leaders of the group.

Some Mozambican security officials told IGIHE that the men were not the leaders of the groups, and some residents said one of them knew him "because he was a native of Palma" while the perpetrators were from abroad.

Some of its fighters speak Swahili and even have Swahili documents. When they kill, they say, "Allah Akbar," and then cut off the heads of the people and hang them from above, and the men cut them off with their manhood.

They kidnap women and children and train them for war, and others for their wives and those who will help them with their work or carry their burdens. For women, the most testimonial TIME has seen is that they only carry “good looks”.
